New Delhi: US President Donald Trump stated that the prolonged period of war with Iran might finally come to an end, as he believes that the war would end “pretty soon”. These statements were made when diplomatic talks regarding the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz were gaining traction.
These statements from President Trump have instilled hope for the possibility of reaching a breakthrough between Washington and Tehran despite the vast gap over sanctions, navigation, and the presence of military forces in the Gulf.
In response to the questions from reporters, Trump indicated that it may be difficult for Iran to continue the hostilities. In the same breath, he made it clear that the military operations being conducted by the USA were an attempt to keep Iran from creating nuclear weapons.
Trump seems confident that talks will end the standoff.
Additionally, the US president noted that months of military activities have been putting stress on the delivery of some high-tech weapons.
Trump, however, argued that the US military is still well-armed as defence contractors increase production of important weapon systems such as Patriot air-defence interceptors and Tomahawk cruise missiles.
This is to boost the US military's readiness following months of military operations in the region.
On the other hand, Iran stated that talks between Iran and Oman concerning a new agreement on passage through the Strait of Hormuz are nearing finalization stages.
An Iranian spokesman for the foreign ministry of Iran, Esmail Baghaei, said talks have advanced on topics such as the geographical coordinates for the proposed shipping route.
Tehran said a joint declaration may come out should there be no hindrances. Iran tied any deal in the maritime sector to lifting restrictions on their trade route.

The US government has also hinted at diplomatic success in talks with Iran.
According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the talks have yielded considerable results and he has expressed hope that an agreement will be reached soon regarding opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most vital energy corridors in the world and any disturbance in the region has generated fears over oil supplies worldwide.
Even though there have been signs of progress on both sides, some serious problems still need to be sorted out.
Iran wants assurances and acknowledgment of its problems, while the United States is determined that shipping must not be restricted in any way.
Although the announcement by the US President indicates a diplomatic victory, the future of the dispute will be determined by how these differences will be bridged.
