Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, saying the United States could target key infrastructure if a deal is not reached. He stated that Washington has offered what he described as a “fair and reasonable” agreement, but warned of severe consequences if Tehran refuses to accept it.

Trump said the US could take decisive military action, including targeting power plants and critical infrastructure, if negotiations fail. His remarks signal a significant escalation in rhetoric amid already heightened tensions between the two countries.

US Delegation Headed to Pakistan for Talks

Amid the rising tensions, Trump confirmed that a US delegation will travel to Islamabad for fresh negotiations with Iran. The talks are expected to begin shortly and could extend over the next few days.

This marks another attempt to revive diplomatic engagement after earlier discussions in Pakistan failed to produce a breakthrough. The previous round of talks reportedly lasted nearly a full day but ended without agreement on key issues.

Key Disputes: Nuclear Programme and Sanctions

The primary sticking points between the US and Iran remain Iran’s nuclear programme and economic sanctions. Washington has demanded that Iran limit uranium enrichment and provide long-term assurances against developing nuclear weapons.

Iran, however, has maintained that its nuclear activities are strictly for civilian purposes and has rejected conditions it views as violations of its sovereignty. Tehran has also pushed for the lifting of sanctions and access to frozen financial assets to support its economy.

Tensions Rise Around Strait of Hormuz

The situation has been further complicated by developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. The US has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian-linked vessels, while Iran has responded by restricting passage through the strait.

Trump also accused Iran of violating a ceasefire by firing at vessels in the region, further escalating concerns about maritime security and global oil supplies.
