New Delhi: Amidst rising tensions in the Middle East following the failure of peace talks between the US and Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron has put forward a major diplomatic proposal. He stated that every possible effort must be made to establish peace in the region, restore unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible, and that a resolution can be achieved solely through dialogue and diplomacy.

Emphasis on a Diplomatic Solution

In his statement, Macron asserted that a permanent solution to the Middle East crisis is essential to ensure that all nations can coexist in peace and security. He further emphasized that rather than merely temporary fixes, a robust and long-term framework must be established.

What Issues Are in Focus?

Macron clarified that resolving several critical issues is imperative to this peace process, including:

  • Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs
  • Its regional activities
  • Safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
  • The restoration of peace and sovereignty in Lebanon

Only by resolving all these issues can stability be brought to the region.

A Major Move Regarding Hormuz

France has announced the launch of an international mission in collaboration with the United Kingdom. The objective of this mission is to restore safe passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. This mission will be strictly "defensive" in nature, aimed solely at maintaining peace.

Excluding the US and Israel

A key feature of this mission is the clear stance taken by France and the UK: the mission will remain distinct from the parties involved in the conflict. In other words, they have explicitly ruled out the participation of the United States and Israel. They stated that this would be a "strictly defensive mission," unaffiliated with any of the warring parties.

France's Role

Macron noted that France has consistently strived to resolve this conflict since its inception and remains prepared to continue playing its role in the future. He believes that if all nations work together, lasting peace in the Middle East is attainable.

In the coming days, an international conference regarding this mission is scheduled to be held, with the potential participation of numerous nations. If this plan succeeds, tensions along vital maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz could ease, providing relief to global trade.
