Washington: Amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, a new diplomatic initiative toward peace has been launched. US Vice President J.D. Vance will visit Pakistan this week, where crucial talks are scheduled to take place regarding a possible lasting peace agreement with Iran. This move is seen as an attempt to defuse rising tensions in the region.

Talks to Begin in Islamabad

According to the White House, the first round of talks will begin in Islamabad on Saturday morning. J.D. Vance will lead the US delegation. He will be accompanied by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said the US is looking forward to these face-to-face meetings.

Warning to Iran

With this initiative, the US has maintained a tough stance. J.D. Vance has urged Iran to take the "next step." He warned that if talks do not progress, President Trump will again have the option of military action. This statement comes at a time when Iran has again closed the Strait of Hormuz, which the US has described as "unacceptable."

Tensions Rise Despite Ceasefire

A ceasefire was recently announced between the US and Iran, but within hours, the situation escalated again. Tensions further escalated after Israeli attacks in Lebanon killed more than 100 people. This development has once again destabilized the entire region.

Iran's Pressure on US

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has pressured the US to respect the ceasefire. He said that the US must decide whether it wants peace or continues the war through Israel. Araghchi also strongly reacted to the events in Lebanon and drew the international community's attention to it.

Pakistan Appeals for Restraint

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire. He said that to give diplomacy a chance, it is essential that all parties adopt a peaceful path.
