Iran claims attack on US Warship Abraham Lincoln
Tehran: Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Iran has claimed that it carried out a missile and drone strike on the American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). The claim was made on Friday by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Iranian officials, the attack targeted the US warship during ongoing regional tensions between Tehran and Washington. Iran alleged that the strike caused “serious damage” to the aircraft carrier. However, the United States has strongly rejected the claim, calling it inaccurate and misleading.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said the strike involved ballistic missiles and drones aimed at the US vessel. In a statement, the IRGC claimed the attack was a response to escalating military tensions in the region.
The Iranian statement also said the alleged attack took place in the Gulf of Oman, around 340 kilometres away from Iran’s maritime boundary.
Iranian media reports claimed that after the strike, the US carrier strike group moved away from the area. The IRGC further alleged that the aircraft carrier had become “non-operational” after the attack.
US officials, however, denied Iran’s assertions and said the aircraft carrier remains fully operational and unharmed.
According to American authorities, there has been no confirmed attack or damage to the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). Officials described the Iranian claims as part of misinformation amid heightened geopolitical tensions. The US military has not reported any such incident involving the carrier in the region.

Experts believe the claims and counterclaims come at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States remain high over regional influence and military activities.
Analysts warn that such statements could further escalate the already volatile situation in the Middle East. However, there has been no independent confirmation of the alleged attack so far.
Regional and international agencies are closely monitoring developments as the situation continues to evolve.
