Washington: The United States has launched a new round of airstrikes against Iran following a deadly attack on American forces stationed in Jordan.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was carried out under the direction of President Donald Trump after two US service members were killed, one remains missing, and four others were injured in an Iranian missile and drone attack.

Airstrikes aimed at IRGC-linked targets

CENTCOM said the strikes were intended to weaken Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and to respond to attacks carried out by forces linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The strategic waterway remains one of the world's most important oil transit routes.

Casualties mount in the conflict

The attack on the US military base in Jordan took place on July 17 while American and partner forces were defending against incoming missiles and drones. Four injured personnel were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan and later discharged, while others with minor injuries returned to duty.

According to official US figures, 16 American service members have been killed and more than 430 wounded since the current US-Iran conflict began, highlighting the growing human and military cost of the confrontation.

Iran issues fresh warning

Following the US strikes, Iranian leadership warned that any continued military action by Washington would be met with an "unforgettable" response. Tehran also announced it was suspending its commitments under the interim agreement signed about a month ago, raising fresh concerns over the possibility of further escalation.
