Washington: Airstrikes were conducted by the US on Iranian facilities following the purported launch of a missile attack on an American military facility in Jordan by the Iranians.
The strikes were done in retaliation for what was termed an attempted attack on US troops based in the Middle East according to the US Central Command.
The military strikes are the first moves against the Iranians made by the Americans since President Donald Trump ordered a halt of the bombing of Iran last week.
Several hours before the military strike, President Trump indicated that a tough retaliation was coming against the Iranians. This came after news broke about the missile attack on the American military installation in Jordan.
It is reported that the mission by the US military was meant to show the seriousness with which the US protects its troops.
The IRGC of Iran said that it was behind the attacks on US assets in Jordan. It said that its targets were an airbase and a command centre. Nevertheless, the US military said that all the incoming missiles were shot down and that there were no damages recorded.
According to the Iranian media, the resistance from the side of Iran will go on until the US stops using hostile policies against the Islamic Republic.
In a separate development, IRGC naval force says that it stopped and destroyed three oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz by unauthorized ways. This event increases concern about the security situation in the region and about one of the most crucial sea passage in the world.
This latest episode has increased tensions in the Middle East region, making people fear for another regional war if the situation is not solved diplomatically.
