Tehran: The week-long funeral ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei are set to conclude on Thursday with his burial at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.

As the ceremonies enter their final phase, attention has shifted to whether his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, will make his first public appearance since assuming leadership.

Speculation Over Mojtaba's Absence

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since succeeding his father, prompting speculation over his whereabouts and health. Iranian state media has only carried written statements attributed to him, while he has remained absent from official events.

According to media reports, Mojtaba is believed to have been injured during the joint US-Israeli strike that killed Ali Khamenei and several members of his family. However, there has been no official confirmation of those reports.

Funeral Draws Senior Leaders, Allies

While Mojtaba has stayed out of public view, three of Ali Khamenei's sons- Mostafa, Masoud and Meysam attended funeral ceremonies in Tehran. Senior Iranian security officials, including Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Vahidi and Quds Force chief Esmail Qaani, have also appeared at the events.

Delegations from Hamas and Hezbollah participated in the ceremonies, with mourners and officials renewing calls for retaliation following Khamenei's killing.

Qom Memorial May Offer Another Opportunity

Iran's Islamic Propagation Coordination Council has announced a memorial ceremony in Qom on Friday under Mojtaba Khamenei's auspices. It remains unclear whether he will attend in person or whether the event will be held on his behalf.

Any public appearance by Mojtaba would carry significant political symbolism as Iran seeks to project continuity in leadership amid heightened regional tensions. Whether he appears at Thursday's burial in Mashhad or Friday's memorial in Qom is expected to be closely watched both within Iran and internationally.
