Washington: US President Donald Trump has said the United States could reopen the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz “with a little more time,” amid escalating tensions with Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that Washington could take control of the key shipping route and its oil flows, stating that such a move could yield significant economic gains.

The remarks come nearly five weeks into a widening conflict involving US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, which have triggered retaliatory actions from Tehran.
The confrontation, which began intensifying in late February, has expanded across multiple locations, including reported strikes on military and missile infrastructure in Iran and Lebanon. While missile launches from Iran have slowed in recent days, attacks on Israeli territory and US-linked assets in the Gulf region have continued.
Iran has effectively blocked access to the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital corridor through which nearly 20 per cent of the world’s oil supply is transported.
The disruption has led to rising oil prices and heightened concerns among countries dependent on energy imports. The waterway remains one of the most critical chokepoints in global trade, making any interruption a major economic risk.
Despite the rising tensions, there has been little clarity on diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis. Reports indicate that the US has not outlined a detailed plan to de-escalate the situation or secure the reopening of the strait.
Trump has, however, reiterated warnings that the US could target Iran’s energy infrastructure if the blockade continues. He has also hinted at potential strikes on civilian power facilities, drawing sharp responses from Iranian officials.
Iran has maintained that its actions are a response to US and Israeli operations, framing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic countermeasure. Officials in Tehran have signalled readiness for a prolonged confrontation.
As military posturing continues and diplomatic engagement remains limited, the situation around the Strait of Hormuz is being closely monitored worldwide, with significant implications for global energy markets and regional stability.
