New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday called for stronger cooperation among BRICS nations and the wider Global South, unveiling five major initiatives focused on artificial intelligence, trade, digital transformation, manufacturing and talent development during the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
Addressing the session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at Bharat Mandapam, Xi said BRICS countries should deepen partnerships with emerging economies and work together to build a more balanced global order.
Xi Jinping said BRICS members should strengthen open and mutually beneficial cooperation while maintaining stable industrial and supply chains. He also called for efforts to create a larger integrated market to boost economic growth among developing nations.
The Chinese President stressed that global rules should not be decided by a few countries and argued that all nations should have a role in shaping the international system.
He called for upholding principles such as sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful resolution of disputes, adding that international rules should be applied equally without double standards.
Xi proposed five key initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation among BRICS countries.
The first focused on artificial intelligence, with China suggesting the creation of a BRICS AI open-source community to encourage cooperation on large language models and develop an open AI ecosystem.
The second initiative targeted trade and investment, including stronger economic partnerships and a platform to improve cooperation in the services sector.
China’s third proposal focused on digital industry cooperation, including technology exchange, digital skills training and development of a BRICS digital ecosystem.
The fourth initiative was related to intelligent manufacturing, with Beijing offering support for smart factories and advanced manufacturing systems.
The fifth proposal focused on science and technology talent development through engineering alliances and youth exchange programmes to promote innovation.
Xi Jinping said BRICS countries should work together to address global challenges and increase their influence in international affairs. His remarks came as BRICS leaders discussed economic cooperation, security concerns, technology, terrorism and ongoing global conflicts during the summit hosted by India.
