New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping’s arrival in India for the BRICS Summit 2026 has brought attention not only to diplomacy but also to his highly secure presidential vehicle. Images of Xi’s convoy vehicles being transported under black covers in Delhi have gone viral, triggering curiosity about the car hidden underneath.
The vehicle attracting the most attention is the Hongqi N701, China’s ultra-secure presidential limousine used by Xi Jinping during foreign visits. The car was reportedly brought to India ahead of Xi’s arrival as part of standard security arrangements for visiting heads of state.
Covering high-security state vehicles during international travel is a common practice followed by many countries. The black covers help protect the vehicle from dust, weather conditions and accidental damage while also limiting public exposure.
For presidential vehicles, security is a major concern. Keeping them covered during transportation reduces unnecessary photographs and prevents detailed observation of the vehicle’s features before official use.
The practice is not unusual for specially designed cars used by world leaders, which often arrive separately before the arrival of the leader.
The Hongqi N701 is a specially built luxury limousine developed by Chinese automobile brand Hongqi, which has a long association with China’s political leadership.
Unlike commercial luxury cars, the N701 is produced specifically for China’s top leadership and its detailed specifications remain confidential.
The massive limousine, estimated to be around 5.5 metres long, features a bold design with Hongqi’s signature styling and is believed to include advanced security systems.
Reports suggest that the vehicle has bullet-resistant protection, reinforced body structure and specialised safety features. However, many technical details have never been officially confirmed by Chinese authorities.
The Hongqi N701 is more than just a mode of transport. It represents China’s preference for using a domestically developed vehicle for its top leadership while showcasing the country’s automobile capabilities.
Hongqi, meaning “Red Flag”, was established in 1958 and has historically been linked with China’s government and political elite.
Xi Jinping’s Hongqi is not the only high-security vehicle attracting attention in Delhi during the BRICS Summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also arrived with his armoured Aurus Senat limousine, another specially designed state vehicle.
As global leaders gather in India, the focus remains on diplomatic discussions, but the arrival of these heavily protected cars has added another layer of curiosity around the high-profile summit.
