New Delhi: Ukraine President Zelenskyy’s relinquishes NATO ambition for peace. Ukraine applied for NATO membership in September 2022 after Russia illegally annexed the country's southeast.
After almost four years into the war, Ukraine has relinquished its ambition of joining the NATO military alliance to end the war with Russia. Kyiv has demanded Western security guarantees ahead of talks with US envoys in Berlin as a safeguard against Russian future attacks.

Zelenskyy’s is struggling criticism within and outside. His five-year term was scheduled to end in May 2024, but elections were legally put off due to Russia’s full-scale invasion.

He is also under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to sign a peace deal that initially backed Moscow's demands. Russia is bombing various cities in Ukraine to disrupt power and water supplies. Even European partners' security guarantees instead of NATO membership is a compromise.
Ukraine President Zelenskyy seems to have fallen apart with NATO nations. He had earlier demanded a "dignified" peace plan and guarantees that Russia would not attack Ukraine again as he prepared to meet US envoys and European allies in Berlin.
