SC: Lawyer attempts to throw shoe at Chief Justice Gavai; CJI says such incidents don’t matter

New Delhi: During the live proceedings in the Supreme Court on Monday, a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, disrupting Court proceedings for some time, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The accused lawyer was immediately apprehended by security personnel and escorted out of the courtroom. The man was later identified as Rakesh Kishore.

According to reports Rakesh Kishore approached the dais, removed his shoe, and tried to hurl it before being intercepted. While being removed out of the Court, he shouted, “We will not tolerate any insult to Sanatan.”

Attempted Shoe or Roll of Paper?

According to reports, some eyewitnesses reported that the lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the judges, while others said he merely threw a roll of paper. Furthermore, it was claimed that the accused lawyer was dressed as a lawyer, further clarifying his identity.

Entire Incident

The legal website Bar & Bench, quoting sources, reported that while the bench headed by the CJI was hearing a case involving lawyers, a lawyer ran forward, took off his shoe, and tried to throw it at the CJI. However, security personnel immediately restrained him and escorted him out of the court.

Chief Justice's Peaceful Approach

Following this incident, Chief Justice BR Gavai stated that such incidents do not affect him. He stated that court proceedings will continue and he will not be distracted by such incidents. The Supreme Court has formed a committee to investigate the matter, and the accused lawyer is being questioned.

This incident comes at a time when CJI BR Gavai's dismissal of a petition to install a statue of Lord Vishnu at the Jawari Temple in Khajuraho and some of his statements during the hearing have sparked considerable controversy on social media. The Chief Justice stated that he respects all religions and that his statement is being misrepresented on social media.

The attempt to attack the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court is a serious matter that undermines the dignity of the Court. The Court's security arrangements and the investigation into this incident will be crucial to prevent such incidents in the future.
