New Delhi: Several senior advocates have written to the Chief Justice of India to reconsider the decision and withdraw the recommendation to transfer judges to and from the Delhi High Court.

They have expressed their deep anguish at the proposed transfers from and to the High Court of Delhi as proposed by the Collegium in its meetings held in August 2025.

The senior advocates in the letter said, "Transfers of judges of utmost integrity and competence outside the Court has a chilling effect on the work of the Court. Justice Ganju has heard matters and delivered judgments on a host of issues and is part of our stellar bench, renowned for its diligence and competence."

"Equally, transferring judges to Delhi, no matter how competent, threatens to undermine the character and traditions of the Court. This also disables competent lawyers from being appointed by the bench thereby stunting the future growth of the bar in Delhi,'' further stated the letter.

The letter was written to the CJI on 3 September with copies to Justice Surya Kant, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice BV Nagarathna.

Sandeep Sethi, Saurabh Kirpal, Kirti Uppal, Gaurav Sarin, Arvind Nayar, Ravi Sikri, Swathi Sukumar, Priya Kumar, Viraj R Datar, Malvika Trevedi, Sanjay Dewan, Anurag Ahluwalia, Ankit Jain, Ashish Mohan, Sandeep Aggarwal, C Mohan Rao, Diya Kapur, Asheesh Jain, Rajeev K Virmani, Ashish Vachher, and Sanjeev Sagar are some of the senior members of the Bar who have signed the letter.
