New Delhi: Sri Lanka has announced free tourist visa access for travellers from 40 countries, including India, in a move aimed at reviving the country’s tourism sector after its recent economic crisis.
Under the new policy, Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka will no longer have to pay processing charges for obtaining an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The visa-free facility will allow travellers to stay in the country for up to 30 days.
The Sri Lankan government said the initiative is designed to make travel more affordable and encourage a larger number of international visitors during the upcoming holiday season.

The approved ETA will remain valid for 30 days and allow double entry during the period of stay. However, the earlier processing fee required for obtaining the ETA has now been removed.
Authorities clarified that although the visa is free, travellers must still complete the online approval process through the official immigration portal before entering Sri Lanka.
Indian travellers applying for the ETA must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka. Visitors will also need to provide proof of return or onward travel along with accommodation details during their stay in the country.
Tourists planning to remain in Sri Lanka for more than 30 days can apply for a visa extension by paying the required additional charges.

Sri Lanka has been focusing on rebuilding its tourism industry after facing severe economic challenges in recent years. Tourism remains one of the country’s major sources of foreign exchange earnings.
India continues to be among the largest contributors to Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, with thousands of Indian visitors travelling to the island nation each year for holidays, religious tourism and business visits.
Officials believe the removal of visa fees and the simplified entry process could significantly increase tourist arrivals from India and other countries in the coming months. The decision is also expected to make short international trips more attractive for Indian travellers due to reduced travel expenses and easier procedures.
