Nainital: With thousands of devotees expected to gather for the annual Foundation Day celebrations at Kainchi Dham on June 15, the Nainital Police have rolled out an extensive traffic and crowd-management plan to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience.
The special arrangements will remain in effect from the morning of June 13 until the night of June 16, covering the period of peak footfall at the renowned spiritual destination founded by Neem Karoli Baba.
In a major move to prevent congestion around the temple premises, authorities have announced that private vehicles will not be allowed to reach Kainchi Dham directly during the fair.
Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC said devotees arriving from Haldwani, Kathgodam, Nainital or Ramnagar will have to park their vehicles at designated parking zones. From there, shuttle buses and cab services will transport pilgrims to the temple.
The decision has been taken to streamline traffic movement and avoid massive jams that typically occur during the annual celebrations.
Police have identified several parking locations for visitors arriving from different routes.
Devotees travelling from Haldwani and Kathgodam will be required to park at Bhimtal Parking and Vikas Bhawan Parking. Those coming from Nainital and Ramnagar will have to use Metropole Parking and DSA Flats Parking.
Officials said dedicated shuttle services will operate continuously between these parking areas and Kainchi Dham.
Authorities have also made special arrangements for devotees arriving by bus and train.
Shuttle buses will operate from Haldwani Bus Stand, Haldwani Railway Station, and Kathgodam Railway Station, allowing pilgrims to reach the temple without inconvenience.
According to police officials, adequate numbers of mini buses and larger buses have been arranged to manage the expected rush.
To ensure uninterrupted movement of pilgrims, heavy goods vehicles will be barred from key routes between June 13 and June 16. However, vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, LPG cylinders and petroleum products will be exempt from the restrictions.
Commercial vehicles heading towards Bageshwar and Pithoragarh will be diverted through Tanakpur, while those bound for Almora will be routed via Ramnagar.
Kainchi Dham, established by the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba, has become one of India's most prominent spiritual destinations. The ashram attracts devotees from across the globe, including celebrities, business leaders and spiritual seekers.
The annual Foundation Day celebrations hold immense significance for followers, resulting in a massive influx of visitors every year. Authorities say the traffic and security measures have been designed to ensure a safe, organised and hassle-free experience for all devotees attending the event.
