New Delhi: Avocados have long been praised for their nutritional value, but recent studies suggest the fruit may offer even more health benefits than previously thought. New research indicates that regular avocado consumption could help improve blood sugar control, support heart health and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Daily Avocado Linked to Lower Diabetes Risk

A 2025 study found that women who consumed between 30 and 38 grams of avocado daily had a lower risk of developing diabetes compared to those who did not eat avocado regularly.

Researchers noted that the same association was not observed among men. Experts suggest that differences in lifestyle habits and biological factors may have influenced the results.

Nutrition specialists point out that avocados contain healthy unsaturated fats, dietary fiber, vitamins and plant compounds that may contribute to better metabolic health.

Heart Health Benefits Also Observed

Another recent study examined the effects of combining one avocado with one cup of mango daily in people with prediabetes.

After eight the weeks, participants showed improvements in blood vessel function, an important indicator of cardiovascular health. Male participants also experienced reductions in diastolic blood pressure compared with those who followed a standard diet.

Researchers believe the combination of nutrient-rich fruits may support healthier circulation and cardiovascular function.

Avocado May Improve Blood Sugar Response

A separate study, eating one avocado each day helped reduce dietary glycemic load, a measure that reflects how foods affect blood sugar levels. Participants who added avocado to their daily meals showed a significant reduction in glycemic load over six months compared to those who maintained their usual diet.

Experts say avocados may help slow digestion because of their fiber and healthy fat content, leading to a steadier blood sugar response after meals.

Easy Ways to Include Avocado in Your Diet

Health experts recommend adding avocado to salads, sandwiches, smoothies and soups. It can also be used as a substitute for mayonnaise, butter or sour cream in various recipes.

While more research is needed, current findings suggest that incorporating avocado into a balanced diet may offer meaningful benefits for heart health, blood sugar management and overall metabolic well-being.
