Mumbai: A tragic accident occurred in the Tamhini Ghat area of Maharashtra's Raigad district, where a Thar SUV plunged into a 400-foot-deep ravine, killing six young men. The accident occurred on Tuesday morning, but police were notified on Thursday. Officials stated that the precise location of the vehicle was determined only with the help of a drone camera.

The deceased are estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old. All the young men had left Pune late Monday night in the Thar SUV. Tamhini Ghat, a scenic mountain road connecting Raigad and Pune districts, is often a popular picnic spot.

Crashed SUV found with drone
According to officials, the boys had lost contact with their families since Tuesday morning. Growing concerned, the family informed the police. Police traced the location of the young men's mobile phones, which were found near Tamhini Ghat. Following this, a team from the Mangaon police station launched a search operation on Thursday morning.

During the search, a broken safety railing was discovered at a bend in the road, raising concerns that the vehicle might have fallen into a ravine. Police then used drones to locate the SUV, which was stuck in a tree below in the valley.

Driver suspected of losing control
Although there were no eyewitnesses to the incident, officials believe the driver may have lost control of the vehicle at a bend in the road, leading to the accident.

A joint team of Raigarh police and local volunteers pulled all six bodies from the ravine on Thursday afternoon. The identification of the deceased has been completed. Police said the bodies have been sent to a government hospital, where they will be handed over to the families after post-mortem.
