Maharashtra: Truck rams into stranded SUV in Beed; 6 killed

Mumbai: Six people were killed on the spot after a speeding truck rammed into them while they were trying to remove a crashed SUV on a highway bridge in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Monday night, police said.

Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat said that all six victims died on the spot.

According to officials, the accident began when an SUV struck a divider on the Gandhi Bridge, leaving it immobilized but causing no injuries in the initial crash. As residents of Gevrai gathered to move the vehicle off the highway, a fast-approaching truck ploughed into them, killing six people instantly.

Deceased Identified

The deceased have been identified as Balu Atkare, Manoj Karande, Krishna Jadhav, Deepak Saroya, Bhagwat Paralkar, and Sachin Nanavre—all residents of Gevrai. After the collision, the truck driver fled the scene, and police have launched a search to apprehend the accused.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Earlier Accident

Two days ago on 25 May two women, including a 17-year-old girl, lost their lives and five others sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle collision on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli, an official said.
