Security beefed in Delhi (Img: X)
New Delhi: The national capital is bracing for heightened security ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10. The demonstration, described by organisers as “Jantar Mantar Season 2”, is aimed at demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The CJP and the All India Students’ Association (AISA) have called for the demonstration, with opposition parties and other groups also expected to participate. The Election Commission has faced criticism from protesters over allegations of voter deletions and concerns about the electoral-roll revision exercise.
Authorities have intensified security arrangements ahead of the planned gathering. Delhi Police has not granted permission for the protest, citing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Security preparations reportedly include additional police and central armed forces personnel, barricades, surveillance cameras and monitoring at key entry points. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on potential gatherings around sensitive locations.
The heightened security comes amid concerns about large crowds travelling to Delhi from different parts of the country.
The protest organisers have maintained that their campaign is aimed at raising concerns about electoral transparency and accountability. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has called for mobilisation in Delhi after demonstrations in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation centres on allegations linked to the SIR exercise. These remain allegations raised by protesters, rather than established findings of wrongdoing.
The planned demonstration has also triggered a political debate over the right to peaceful assembly and the police’s decision to deny permission.
Residents and commuters may encounter security checks, traffic diversions and restrictions around protest-sensitive areas. A separate Delhi Police communication to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has proposed possible entry-exit restrictions at 57 metro stations from 9 PM on October 9, continuing on October 10 until the situation normalises.
The proposed measures should not be treated as confirmed closures unless DMRC issues an official update. Passengers are advised to check the latest metro and traffic advisories before travelling.
With the protest scheduled for Saturday, security arrangements and the response of organisers and authorities are likely to remain in focus.
