New Delhi: The 8th Pay Commission has officially started its consultation process with employee unions, marking the beginning of discussions on salaries, allowances, and pensions for Central Government employees. Initial meetings are being held in Delhi from April 28 to April 30, 2026.
Consultation process begins
The Commission has begun collecting suggestions from various employee organisations. However, due to time limits, not all unions have been included in this first round of meetings. Officials have clarified that this is only the beginning, and more consultations will be held across different states and Union Territories in the coming months.
The main goal of the Pay Commission is to review the existing salary structure, adjust allowances according to inflation, and improve pension benefits for retirees. All suggestions received from stakeholders will be carefully examined before final recommendations are prepared.
Salary figures still unconfirmed
There has been growing discussion among employees about a possible minimum salary of Rs 72,000 under the new Pay Commission. However, officials have confirmed that this is not an official proposal.
So far, the only formal demand submitted is from the National Council - Joint Consultative Machinery, which has suggested a minimum basic salary of ₹69,000 along with a fitment factor of 3.83. This proposal is currently under consideration.
No final decision yet
The Commission has made it clear that no final decision has been taken regarding salary hikes or allowances. The process is still in the consultation stage, where inputs are being collected and analysed.
Final recommendations on salary structure, fitment factor, and benefits will be released only after the entire review process is completed.
Employees advised to avoid rumours
Authorities have advised employees to rely only on official updates and avoid circulating unverified figures on social media, as discussions are still in the early phase and subject to change.
