Historic First Air Show in Northeast Marks Air Force Day
Guwahati: The Indian Air Force (IAF) held its first mega air show in Northeast India on Sunday to mark the 93rd Air Force Day. The historic event, held at Lachit Ghat on the Brahmaputra River, saw over 75 aircraft and helicopters display their strength and prowess in over 25 formations. The main objective of the event was to showcase the Air Force's capabilities and public engagement.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said that hosting an air show in the Northeast was an honor. He explained that he had been trying to visit the region for two or three years. He said, "The Northeast is no longer a remote region. We are amazed by the enthusiastic response from the people here." He further stated that the Air Force regularly conducts exercises in the Northeast and this was not a special occasion.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this Air Force display along the Chicken Neck Corridor and four international borders is a "sleep-giving" display for the enemies. He thanked the people of Guwahati for their large turnout. He said that this first air show in the Northeast was a thrilling display of the Air Force's strength, prowess, and courage.

He informed that there are eight advanced landing grounds in Arunachal Pradesh and other areas, all of which are operational and exercises are conducted periodically.

The air show featured numerous aircraft, including the Rafale, Sukhoi, Apache, MiG, IL-78 Refueller, Mirage, Jaguar, C-17 Globemaster, Advanced Light Helicopter Mk1, C-130 Hercules, and Antonov An-32. Operating from seven air bases, these aircraft showcased their power and precision. The event also included a tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg, with his famous song, "Mayabini Ratir Bukut."
