Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is in force in the area. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also not granted permission for the proposed Tiranga Yatra.
The detention came amid heightened security arrangements across central Delhi ahead of the planned demonstration. More than 6,000 Delhi Police personnel and around 26,000 Central Armed Police Forces personnel have been deployed in and around the area.
