DMK president and state Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has made it clear that this one seat has been given to Kamal Haasan's party as part of the electoral alliance between the two parties before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The number of DMK and its allies in the assembly is such that they can easily win four seats. At the same time, opposition party AIADMK can get two seats with the support of BJP and other allies.
After this announcement, Makkal Nidhi Mayyam issued an official statement saying that the party had passed a resolution to send Kamal Haasan to the Rajya Sabha.
Senior party leader Murali Appas said that Kamal Haasan will be sent to the Rajya Sabha on behalf of Makkal Nidhi Mayyam.
However, Kamal Haasan is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. Meanwhile, he is also facing criticism for a controversial statement.
He recently said during an event in Chennai that "Kannada language also originated from Tamil." There is anger among Kannada-speaking people regarding this statement, and a public apology is being demanded from him.
In this way, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is now going to play an important role in politics and may soon start his new innings as a Rajya Sabha member.
