New Delhi: Global payments company Visa has announced a major workforce restructuring, eliminating around 2,600 jobs worldwide as the company accelerates its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and operational efficiency.
The layoffs, which represent nearly 7 per cent of Visa’s global workforce, have affected employees across different regions, including India. While the company has not revealed the exact number of India-based employees impacted, reports suggest that several teams in the country have faced significant job cuts.
The development has sparked fresh concerns among technology professionals about the growing impact of AI on traditional roles.

For some Visa employees in India, the day began with unexpected emails informing them about the job cuts. Reports suggest that several employees received termination communication during the early hours of July 29.
Visa has a major presence in India, with more than 3,500 employees working across technology and corporate centres in cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The layoffs reportedly affected not only junior-level employees but also experienced professionals, including engineering managers, senior directors and long-serving employees.
Affected employees were provided severance packages and notice periods, although some reportedly lost access to company systems shortly after receiving the communication.
Visa has said the workforce reduction is part of its strategy to become more efficient and redirect investments towards areas with stronger growth potential.
