India Sends Clear Message to China: Ajit Doval Says Border Peace Is Key to Better Relations

New Delhi: India and China held a crucial diplomatic meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, with National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussing the long-pending border dispute and ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

During the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks, India highlighted that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border is essential for the overall development of relations between the two countries. The discussions focused on boundary delimitation, border management, and efforts to find a long-term political solution to the dispute.

According to India’s External Affairs Ministry, both sides held a detailed exchange of views on the boundary issue and agreed that continued peace in border areas remains a key factor for improving mutual trust and cooperation.

India Stresses Peace as Foundation for Better Relations

India conveyed that stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) will play a decisive role in shaping the future course of India-China relations. The two sides reviewed progress made after recent agreements aimed at reducing tensions and restoring normalcy.

China also emphasized the need to continue border negotiations, improve management mechanisms, and expand cross-border cooperation. Wang Yi said both countries should learn from past experiences and ensure that the border issue does not prevent the broader development of bilateral relations.

Talks Held After Ladakh Standoff, Focus on Normalising Ties

The meeting marked the third round of Special Representatives’ talks after India and China reached an understanding in October 2024 to ease the prolonged military standoff in the Ladakh sector. The border tensions had pushed bilateral ties to their lowest level since the 1962 war.

Both nations also expressed satisfaction over the gradual resumption of people-to-people exchanges, including the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and border trade through designated routes.

Ajit Doval said India-China relations have been gradually returning to normalcy over the past year, largely due to efforts by both sides to maintain peace along the border. The talks took place ahead of the BRICS summit, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India.
