Amid safety concerns, Air India and IndiGo cancel flights

New Delhi: In a significant travel disruption, both Air India and IndiGo have announced the cancellation of flights to several northern and western Indian cities for Tuesday, citing “latest developments” and prioritising the safety of passengers.

On Tuesday, national carrier Air India announced the cancellation of all flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot.

Late on Monday night, private airline IndiGo issued a similar advisory, suspending its operations to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot.

In its official advisory, Air India said: “In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot are cancelled for Tuesday, 13th May.”

IndiGo, in a parallel statement, noted: “In light of the latest developments and with your safety as our utmost priority, flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot are cancelled for 13th May 2025.”

Both airlines expressed regret for the inconvenience and assured that their operations teams are closely monitoring the situation. Passengers have been urged to check their flight status before proceeding to the airport and reach out to customer care for assistance.

Over 200 Flights Cancelled

Last week after ‘Operation Sindoor’ over 200 flights have been cancelled and nearly 18 airports, including Srinagar, have suspended operations temporarily following missile strikes carried out by the Indian armed forces on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, as part of Operation Sindoor.

Major Indian carriers such as Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express, along with a few international airlines, have called off several scheduled flights due to the restrictions in place.

Airports across northern and western India have been closed as a precautionary measure. These include key airports in Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala, and Jamnagar, among others.

IndiGo alone has reportedly cancelled around 160 flights. Overall, more than 200 flight movements have been impacted. From Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport alone, at least 35 flights have been called off since midnight, including domestic and international departures and arrivals. American Airlines and other foreign carriers have also suspended some services.
