Libya: Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir arrived in Libya this week and finalized a major arms deal reportedly worth $4 billion. During his visit, Munir held talks with Libyan military officials and highlighted Pakistan’s defense capabilities and technological advancements.

What Munir Said in Libya

In meetings with Libyan generals, Munir emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to supporting allied nations with defense technology. He reportedly stated that Pakistan uses primarily domestic weapons systems and is committed to sharing defense technology with friendly countries.

Munir also recited religious verses during his visit and spoke about Pakistan’s role in global Muslim solidarity, calling for preparedness and technological development in line with the country’s strategic goals.

Statements Spark Debate in Pakistan

Munir’s religious and political remarks have drawn criticism within Pakistan. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, questioned Munir’s statements, asking how Pakistan can justify actions against Muslim nations such as Afghanistan while promoting Islamic unity abroad.

Political Context: Imran Khan Challenges Munir

The visit comes amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has instructed his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to organize a nationwide movement against both General Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government.

PTI leaders assert they will continue protests despite the government’s restrictions. Authorities have stated that Imran Khan will not be allowed to meet anyone in jail until February next year, limiting his direct involvement.
