In a major anti-narcotics operation in Tripura, Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized around 4.5 lakh Yaba tablets valued at ₹45 crore. One individual was arrested and handed over to DRI for investigation.

4.5 lakh Yaba tablets confiscated in Assam
Tripura: The Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) jointly seized a large quantity of Yaba tablets in General A. Mungiakami, Tripura. According to an official statement, approximately 450,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth ₹45 crore (approximately $1.6 billion), were seized from a truck (AS-01T-C7674). One person has been arrested and handed over to the DRI for further investigation.
Earlier, the Assam Rifles and DRI conducted a joint operation based on information about drug trafficking in Kovai district. According to an official statement, the operation resulted in the arrest of a resident of Karimganj, Assam, who was smuggling 160,000 Yaba tablets (valued at approximately ₹16 crore) via NH-8 on the night of January 24, 2026. The truck was seized, and further investigation is underway.

The Assam Rifles has been active in the anti-narcotics operation in the region and regularly conducts operations to dismantle smuggling networks. This seizure is being considered a significant achievement in the run-up to Independence Day and in efforts to curb smuggling.
In a related incident, based on credible information, the Assam Rifles conducted an operation in the Ngur area of Champhai district, Mizoram. During the search, a man on a canoe bike was stopped and 2.2 kg of methamphetamine tablets were recovered. This highly potent psychotropic substance, estimated to be worth ₹6.6 crore in the international market.

The man carrying the drugs was identified as Lalhmangaizuala, who was arrested and handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai. The recovered drugs and the accused have been forwarded for investigation and legal action.
Experts believe that preventing such large-scale smuggling is crucial for regional security. This action by the Assam Rifles and the DRI will not only help curb smuggling but also help keep young people away from drugs.
