Sitapur: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is set to be released from jail after nearly 23 months, but the process has been delayed. Initially, Azam Khan was scheduled to be released at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, but his release was stalled due to non-payment of a ₹3,000 fine. Now, it is expected that he may be released by 12 noon.

Release stalled due to fine

Azam Khan has been granted bail by the court, but his release became a hurdle when it was revealed that he had not paid a challan (fine) of ₹3,000. Now, after the Sitapur court opens at 10 a.m., the challan will be paid, and the receipt will be shown to the jail administration, after which he will be released.

Supporters gathered outside the jail

Since the news of Azam Khan's release, a large crowd of supporters has gathered outside the Sitapur jail. Many Samajwadi Party leaders and workers have also reached there. Even his son, Adeeb Azam, arrived at the jail in the morning.

However, the police have imposed Section 144 to control the crowd and tightened security around the jail. A total of 15 vehicles were also challaned for parking in no-parking zones.

Political speculation also intensifies

With Azam Khan's release, speculation is also rife about his political strategy. There is talk that he may leave the Samajwadi Party and join the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). BSP MLA Umashankar Singh has stated in this regard, "Azam Khan is welcome to the party."

Samajwadi Party state secretary Rizwan Rasool and other leaders also arrived at the jail in support of Azam Khan. Police have erected barricades at the district's borders to prevent large crowds from gathering and maintain law and order.
