Kolkata: Following heavy voter turnout in the first phase in West Bengal, the second phase has now become even more critical. Campaigning has officially concluded, yet political rhetoric has reached its absolute peak.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned vigorously for the BJP, launching scathing attacks on the TMC government. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah went so far as to suggest that Mamata Banerjee could face defeat in the Bhabanipur constituency.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also delivered a strong rebuttal. She leveled allegations against the BJP, accusing it of bringing in "outsiders," misusing funds, and attempting to intimidate voters.
The campaigning on the final day also garnered significant attention. On one hand, PM Modi visited a temple in Kolkata, while on the other, Mamata Banerjee took to the streets in an effort to connect directly with the people.
Amidst the charged election atmosphere, reports of violence have emerged from areas such as Arambagh, Murshidabad, and Howrah. This has heightened concerns regarding security ahead of the polling.
The "silence period" has now come into effect, yet the political temperature remains exceptionally high. The voting in the second phase will ultimately determine whose side holds the upper hand in this fierce contest.
All in all, the second phase of the Bengal elections is set to take place in an atmosphere that is both extremely critical and fraught with tension. It is now up to the voters to deliver the final verdict in this political battle.
