The collapse happened at the Kohinoor Building located in Balaji Nagar, Gangaram Wada in Bhiwandi city. The building was supposedly declared unsafe by the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC).

NDRF, Fire Brigade on Rescue Mission

Groups of NDRF, Bhiwandi Fire Brigade, and local police arrived at the site as soon as they received information regarding the incident.

As per sources, 11 people were believed to be missing initially, among which some residents and workers doing repairs in the building. Eight dead bodies were retrieved from the debris as early as Friday morning, and the search mission is still on.

The fire brigade officials informed that the dead bodies are moved to the IGM hospital.

Residents Reported Hearing Cracks Before Building Collapse

Early information indicates that the residents reportedly heard cracking sounds coming from the building from 8 pm to 9 pm. Fearing for their lives, the families were subsequently evacuated with the assistance of residents.

However, a part of the B wing of the building collapsed from 11 pm to 11:30 pm while some people were still inside or leaving the building.

The building had 48 rooms with 12 rooms on each floor.
