New Delhi: Amidst the increasing concern regarding the supply of LPG (cooking gas) in the country, the Central Government has taken an important step. The government has decided to make temporary allocation of kerosene under the Public Distribution System (PDS) for 60 days.

This means that people who are unable to get gas cylinders will be provided with kerosene for cooking and lighting, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Why was this step taken?

In recent times, pressure on LPG supply has increased. The availability of gas has been affected due to international conditions and problems in the supply chain. In such a situation, the government has implemented this emergency system to ensure that the common people do not face any problem.

Which states will get the benefit?

The government has decided to restart the supply of kerosene in 21 states and union territories. These are the states which were earlier declared “PDS kerosene free”.

Now kerosene will again be made available in these areas for a limited time, so that the needy people can get relief.

How will kerosene be used?

According to the government order, this kerosene will be given mainly for two purposes: to cook food and for home lighting. This is expected to provide relief especially to the people of poor and rural areas, where access or availability of LPG may be less.

Is this a permanent solution?

No, this is just a temporary measure for 60 days. The main objective of the government is to stabilize the supply of LPG. When the situation becomes normal, kerosene distribution can be stopped again.

What effect will it have on people?

This decision will provide relief to those families who are struggling with LPG shortage. They will get alternative fuel, which will not affect their daily life.

However, Kerosene must be used sfaely and efectively as it more polluting than LPG. This step of the government is an emergency relief measure to ensure that people in any part of the country do not face problems for basic needs like cooking and lighting.
