New Delhi: Senior and prominent BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Friday evening. Advani, 98, was brought to the hospital around 7:30 PM following a chest infection. His condition is reported to be stable.

According to reports, he is undergoing treatment in the pulmonary department and is being monitored by a team of doctors. Earlier this year, in May, Advani had also been admitted to Apollo Hospital due to age-related health issues; he returned home after spending a few days in the hospital.

About a week before his hospitalization, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Advani at his New Delhi residence on October 7. During the visit, Modi sought Advani’s blessings as he marked the completion of 25 years in a position as the head of a government.

Born in Karachi

Lal Krishna Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, which is now in Pakistan. In 1942, he became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During the partition of the country in 1947, his family migrated to India. Subsequently, he joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, considered the political predecessor to the BJP. Following the formation of the BJP in 1980, Advani played a pivotal role in strengthening the party at the national level.

Served in key roles alongside Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Lal Krishna Advani served as the party president on three occasions: 1986–1990, 1993–1998, and 2004–2005. In the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he served as the Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004.

Awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024

Lal Krishna Advani was a prominent leader of the Ram Mandir movement. It was under his leadership that a grand temple procession (*yatra*) was organized. This journey began on September 25, 1990, from the Somnath Temple in Gujarat. Recently, in 2024, the Government of India conferred the Bharat Ratna upon him—the nation's highest civilian honor. He was bestowed with this distinction in recognition of his contributions to public life.
