BJP condemns DMK’s role in SIR work
Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the alleged interference of the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls being conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The BJP has accused the DMK of misusing state government employees and its party cadres to manipulate the voter list ahead of the upcoming elections. Party leaders claimed that members of the DMK’s youth and women’s wings were personally distributing voter forms across several constituencies, sidelining the official Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
BJP leaders further alleged that the DMK government was preventing state officials from working independently under the Election Commission’s directions and attempting to influence the SIR process to favor the ruling party.
BJP national Mahila Morcha president Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan issued a statement condemning the DMK’s alleged interference in the SIR process. Yesterday, BJP state president and former IPS officer K. Annamalai also criticized the DMK, accusing it of obstructing the voter list revision to protect fraudulent entries.
The BJP stated that since the state government itself is opposing the SIR, there are serious doubts about whether the work will be carried out properly.
The party has urged the Election Commission of India to appoint independent officers and closely supervise the ongoing electoral roll revision to ensure transparency and fairness.
