Both Houses Rocked Over Amit Shah’s Absence

New Delhi: The Opposition in both the Houses today targeted Home Minister Amit Shah personally and demanded his presence and a statement on the police firing on student protestors. The echo against the Home Minister in Lok Sabha was fierce, and the House had to be adjourned three times during the day.

In Lok Sabha, soon after the session began today,fresh protests and sloganeering by Opposition MPs disrupted the proceedings in the Lower House. The MPs demanded a response from Union  Home Minister Amit Shah, chanting "Amit Shah jawab Do" and “Amit Shah Sadan mein aao," following which  the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 pm.

In fact, the Opposition staged a protest at Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex before the session began  over the alleged police action against student protesters at Delhi's Janta Mantar on July 20.

When the Lok Sabha resumed at 2pm, the opposition was even more vehement over the Home Minister's absence. The House was  adjourned to 3 pm and later again at 3.30 pm. When the Vande Mataram bill was taken up at 3.30 pm, the opposition continued to protest with sloganeering.

In the Rajya Sabha also, the Opposition raised Amit Shah's absence and demanded a statement. It was Congress deputy leader
Pramod Tiwari said the  opposition wanted the House to function but insisted that Home Minister Shah should make a statement on the action taken against protesting  students. Soon, Opposition MPs raised slogans of "Amit Shah Sadan mein Aao", triggering noisy scenes in the House.

Later, the entire Opposition walked out in protest when Chairman Radhakrishnan did not yield to the Opposition. Intervening in the middle, the Opposition was walking out, the leader of the House, JP Nadda, accused the Opposition of trying to disrupt Parliament since the start of the Monsoon session. He charged that the Opposition's role has been entirely negative since the session began.
