Budgam: A joint security operation in this Jammu and Kashmir district turned into a fierce gun battle after forces eliminated a terrorist following an exchange of fire in the Ashdar Gali area.

The operation, launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, was carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security personnel moved into the area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists hiding in the region.

The operation, named Operation Ashdar, witnessed intense firing after troops detected suspicious movement and challenged the suspected terrorists. The militants responded by opening fire, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire between security forces and the hiding terrorists.

During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised by the joint forces. Security personnel later recovered an AK rifle and other war-like stores from the encounter site, indicating the presence of armed militants operating in the area.

Intelligence-Based Operation Launched In Budgam

Officials said the operation was initiated following credible intelligence inputs regarding terrorist activity in Ashdar Gali. The area was immediately cordoned off by security forces as part of a coordinated counter-terror operation.

Teams from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF carried out a detailed search to ensure that no other militants were hiding in the vicinity. Security forces operating in Jammu and Kashmir regularly conduct such intelligence-led missions to prevent terrorist activities and maintain security in sensitive regions.

Search Operation Continues After Encounter

Following the exchange of fire, additional security measures were put in place around the operation area. The search operation remains underway, with forces conducting further checks to identify possible hideouts, recover additional weapons or determine whether any other terrorists were involved. Officials are expected to share more details after the completion of the operation and verification of recovered material.

Rising Security Focus In Kashmir Valley

The Budgam operation comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Counter-terror operations involving multiple security forces have become a key strategy to neutralise threats, disrupt militant infrastructure and prevent attacks on civilians and security personnel.

The recovery of an AK rifle and war-like stores highlights the continued challenge posed by armed groups attempting to maintain a presence in parts of the Valley.
