Budgam: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Fauzi Musa, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday, officials said. The operation was launched in the Korag area near Yousmarg following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region.
The joint operation was carried out by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security forces moved into the area after receiving information about the movement of suspected terrorists.
According to officials, troops noticed suspicious activity during the operation and challenged the terrorists present in the area. The security forces came under fire after which an exchange of gunfire broke out between the two sides.
During the encounter, a terrorist was neutralised and later identified as Fauzi Musa, who was reportedly a senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit.
Following the elimination of the LeT commander, security forces continued search operations in the surrounding areas to ensure there were no other hiding terrorists.
Officials said the operation remains underway and further details will be shared after the completion of the search operation.
The killing of Fauzi Musa is being seen as a significant achievement in the ongoing counter-terror operations in central Kashmir. Security forces have intensified operations based on intelligence inputs to track and neutralise terrorist networks operating in the region.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while additional security measures have been put in place around the encounter site.
