New Delhi: Delhi Police has written to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), seeking the immediate removal of posts allegedly containing "derogatory, malicious and defamatory" content targeting constitutional authorities.

The request is part of the ongoing investigation into the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak at Jantar Mantar.

Police Seek Removal of Posts

According to the notice sent to X, Delhi Police has asked the platform to remove the identified posts and videos without delay, stating that they are relevant to an ongoing criminal investigation. The police have also requested the platform to preserve all related digital evidence for future legal proceedings.

User Information Sought

Apart from removing the content, Delhi Police has asked X to provide the registration details of the account that uploaded the posts. The information sought includes the account holder's name, address, email ID, contact details, and login and logout records with timestamps.

The notice also requests a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) to authenticate the electronic records submitted during the investigation.

Probe Linked to CJP Protest

The action is linked to the investigation into the July 20 CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, which turned violent in parts of Delhi. Authorities have alleged that abusive and defamatory content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other constitutional functionaries was circulated on social media during and after the demonstrations.

Police sources said the Social Media Monitoring Team has been reviewing online posts to identify content that may violate legal provisions or disturb public order.
