CBI Registers FIR in Aqil Akhter Murder Case; Former Punjab DGP and Ex-Minister Among the Accused

Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken over the probe into the murder of Aqil Akhter, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and former PWD Minister Razia Sultana. The case, which has sent shockwaves through political and administrative circles, was registered by the CBI on 6 November 2025, following the transfer of investigation from the Haryana Police. Circumstances of Aqil Akhter’s Death As per the CBI’s preliminary information, Aqil Akhter died under suspicious circumstances on 16 October 2025 at his residence in Sector 4, near Mansa Devi Mandir, Panchkula (Haryana). The death, initially reported as suicide, began to raise questions after details from the victim’s social media surfaced. Aqil had allegedly been in conflict with his family for several months. In the video, Aqil claimed that he had discovered an illicit relationship between his father and his own wife, further accusing his mother and sister of conspiring to kill him or implicate him in a false case. The video went viral shortly before his death, leading to widespread public discussion and demands for an impartial investigation. Transfer of Case to the CBI Initially, the case was being investigated by Haryana Police, which had registered FIR No. 131 dated 20 October 2025 at Mansa Devi Complex Police Station, Panchkula. However, given the high-profile nature of the accused and allegations of family conspiracy, the Haryana Government transferred the probe to the CBI for an independent and transparent investigation.
