New Delhi: Members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) on Sunday alleged that Delhi Police detained the organisation’s national president Neha Bora during a protest march near Jantar Mantar and took her away in a private vehicle without an official number plate.

The student organisation also claimed that no woman police officer was present inside the vehicle when Bora was taken away, alleging that the action violated established procedures.

There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi Police to the allegations.

Protesters Try To Reach Jantar Mantar

The development came as AISA activists attempted to return to Jantar Mantar for the third consecutive day, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Despite heavy barricading and a large security deployment, the protesters moved towards the designated protest site.

The mobilisation began at Andhra Bhawan Circle on Ashoka Road, with protesters raising slogans as they marched towards Jantar Mantar, news agency PTI reported.

Brief Clash With Security Personnel

Tensions rose briefly as protesters and security personnel clashed when police attempted to prevent them from crossing the barricades.

Visuals from the march showed Bora trying to climb over a barricade while police officials attempted to stop her.

Protests Follow Earlier Detentions

Sunday’s mobilisation came a day after more than 150 protesters were detained during demonstrations in Delhi.

More than 500 protesters, including student activists and political leaders, were also detained in central Delhi on Friday. Bora, AAP leaders and activist Yogendra Yadav were among those detained that day.

Police had denied permission for Friday’s gathering and deployed additional personnel across central Delhi. Several roads leading towards Jantar Mantar were barricaded, while access to some metro stations in the vicinity was temporarily restricted during the earlier protests.
