New Delhi: Security cover for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been strengthened amid growing protests over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Additional personnel have been deployed around his Delhi residence, the Election Commission office and for his personal protection, according to officials.

The security upgrade reportedly came after protesters traced Kumar’s residence in Delhi and a separate demonstration was held outside his family’s house in Agra. Police subsequently reassessed the threat and increased security arrangements around his properties.
Kumar already had Z+ security cover, the highest category of civilian security protection provided by the government. According to officials cited in the report, the expanded security arrangement includes more than 55 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police, along with round-the-clock personal security officers.
The development comes as Opposition parties have stepped up protests demanding Kumar’s resignation over their objections to the SIR exercise. INDIA bloc leaders held demonstrations in Delhi on consecutive days, with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Opposition MPs among those detained while attempting to reach Jantar Mantar.
The Opposition has also sought a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu to raise its concerns over the electoral roll revision and the Election Commission.

With the INDIA bloc planning further demonstrations in Delhi, security agencies are maintaining heightened vigilance around key locations linked to the CEC. The Election Commission has faced sustained political pressure over the SIR process, while allegations of irregularities made by protesters remain disputed by the poll body.
