Census 2027 Begins: Door-to-Door Survey with 33 Questions Starts Across 8 States

The first phase of Census 2027 has started in 8 states from April 16. Enumerators will go door-to-door and collect information through 33 questions, from which future plans and development policies will be prepared.

New Delhi: According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the first phase of Census 2027 has started from 16 April 2026. This phase is called House Listing and Housing Operations (HLO), in which enumerators will go door-to-door to collect information.

In which states did the survey start?

The process is starting in 8 states and union territories, including

  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Goa
  • Karnataka
  • Lakshadweep
  • Mizoram
  • Odisha
  • Sikkim

Apart from this, this process will also start in the NDMC area and Delhi Cantonment.

How many days will the survey run?

This survey will run for 30 days, i.e., from 16 April to 15 May 2026. During this period, trained enumerators will go to every house and collect information.

What questions will be asked?

In this phase there will be a fixed form of a total of 33 questions. Mainly below information will be taken:

  • Condition of the house (pucca/kutcha, etc.)
  • Information about family members
  • Facilities available in the house
  • Assets and resources

This data will help the government in making plans.

Online facility for the first time

This time, for the first time, the facility of self-enumeration, i.e., giving information online, was also provided. About 12 lakh families have already submitted their information through the portal.

Those who have given information online will have to show their SE ID. Enumerators will go to the remaining houses and collect information. After this, the same process will be implemented in other states also in the next phase.

The data obtained from the census is very important for the government. On the basis of these, development plans, facilities, and policies are made.
