CJP Protest Intensifies: Connaught Place Shops, Offices And Restaurants To Shut By 6:30 PM

Shops, offices and restaurants in Connaught Place have been asked to close by 6.30 pm amid security concerns surrounding the ongoing CJP student protest in central Delhi.

New Delhi: Shops, offices, restaurants and other commercial establishments in Connaught Place have been asked to close by 6.30 pm on Thursday amid security concerns linked to the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protest in central Delhi.

The New Delhi Traders Association issued the advisory after receiving instructions from senior New Delhi Municipal Council officials. Establishment owners and occupants have been urged to comply strictly with the early-closure direction.

Traders Urged to Avoid Risk

According to the association’s statement, the decision was taken after reviewing the “critical situation” around Connaught Place.

The advisory said closing establishments early would help businesses avoid any unpleasant incident, damage to property or physical injury. The restriction applies to all shops, offices, restaurants and other establishments operating in the Connaught Place area.

Central Delhi Faces Continued Disruption

The direction comes as protests over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in competitive examinations continue around Jantar Mantar and other parts of central Delhi.

Recent demonstrations have affected traffic and Metro services, with several stations temporarily closed as part of security arrangements. Reports of clashes between protesters and police have further heightened concerns in the area.

Protesters Continue to Demand Pradhan’s Resignation

CJP supporters have remained firm on their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.

The Centre has repeatedly offered talks with protest representatives and announced plans for fast-track courts to deal with examination fraud cases. However, the agitation has continued as protesters seek greater accountability.

Government Promises Action

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said those responsible for compromising the examination process would be punished. She also accused opposition parties of politicising the issue and urged them to participate in a comprehensive discussion in Parliament.
