CP Radhakrishnan becomes Vice Presidential nominee
New Delhi: CP Radhakrishnan has been announced as the NDA’s official candidate for the post of Vice President of India. The decision was taken unanimously in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Radhakrishnan is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, is known for his long-standing association with the BJP and his clean image in public service. His nomination is set to be formally filed on the 21st of this month, marking a key step in the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
JP Nadda the national president of the BJP declared on Sunday that CP Radhakrishnan would be the NDAs nominee for vice president of India. He is Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan in full. On October 20 1957 he was born. Serving as Maharashtras 24th governor since July 31 2024 he currently holds this position.

As he announced Radhakrishnan's name Nadda stated 'We have reached out to opposition leaders and we want the next vice president to be elected unanimously.' He continued by saying CP Radhakrishnan is respected in all facets of Tamil Nadu society and is regarded as a statesman.
Radhakrishnan was the governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024 before taking office as governor of Maharashtra. In addition he served as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and the Governor of Telangana from March to July 2024. Senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is Radhakrishnan.
He served as the BJP State President in Tamil Nadu and was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore Tamil Nadu. His background and lengthy history in public service make him an excellent choice for the vice presidential position. August 21 will mark the filing of his formal nomination.

Former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 due to health concerns although there were rumors of political differences. With a majority in the electoral college made up of members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha the NDA is expected to win the election with ease if it is contested. The talks are scheduled for August 18 and the opposition INDIA bloc may submit a candidate. On August 21 all NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers have been called to Delhi to file their nominations.
