New Delhi: The most significant question facing contemporary journalism is this. In which direction are you steering the mindset of society, the market, and the youth? Our generation often held the belief that our own thoughts constituted the ultimate truth; however, with the passage of time, we came to realize that the new generation is thinking far ahead of us.

The Need to Channel Talent in the Right Direction

In the past, merely learning English was considered a remarkable feat. In villages, people would be deeply impressed if someone simply uttered words like "Hen" or "Goat."

Today's children, however, are multilingual; they are conversant in Hindi, English, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri alike. They possess immense talent, but there is a pressing need to channel that talent in the right direction.

Welcome to Sanjay Mishra, Editorial In-charge of Dainik Jagran

The Most Essential Element in Journalism

Merely speaking of noble ideals is not enough; ideas only truly matter when they are translated into action. The single most important attribute in journalism is the willingness to accept criticism.

Be wary of those who, without having read or truly understood your work, simply offer a cursory "Very good." A true ally is one who possesses the courage to point out your shortcomings. Actively invite criticism, for it is precisely this feedback that refines you and illuminates the correct path forward.

What Constitutes Journalistic Skill?

Modern technology has made the practice of journalism significantly easier. In the past, transmitting a news report required faxes, trunk calls, and hours of arduous effort; today, one can go live instantly using a mobile phone.

However, the fundamental question remains: How do you present your news in a manner that distinguishes it from the rest? What truly defines your journalistic skill?

Despite the abundance of resources available today, always bear one thing in mind: every journalist should invariably have a book in hand at all times. Books are the most potent tools for strengthening one's intellect and personality. Journalism is not merely the act of writing news reports; it is, fundamentally, the act of documenting history.
