New Delhi: Two people lost their lives and more than 20 others sustained injuries after a double-decker bus overturned in central Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred near Jhandewalan Temple in the busy Karol Bagh area.

Visuals from the scene showed the bus severely damaged and lying on its side, indicating the impact of the crash.

Bus Was Travelling From Jaipur

According to police, the bus was en route from Jaipur to Delhi with around 25 passengers on board at the time of the accident. The Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call about the incident at approximately 1:08 am, following which rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the spot.

Rescue Operations and Medical Response

Emergency responders worked swiftly to pull injured passengers out of the overturned vehicle. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, for treatment.

Officials said several passengers suffered serious injuries, though their current condition has not been officially detailed.

Preliminary Cause Points to Loss of Control

Initial findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. However, authorities have not confirmed the exact cause and have launched a detailed investigation to establish the sequence of events.

The accident comes weeks after another fatal bus crash on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, where multiple lives were lost. That incident had raised concerns over road safety and driving practices on highways.

With another serious accident now reported, questions around passenger safety and enforcement of transport regulations are once again in focus.
