Delhi plans a major school overhaul with 125 digital libraries and targeted learning support for 7.5 lakh students. The move aims to bridge foundational gaps while expanding smart classrooms, inclusive education, and scholarship benefits.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced the digital upgrade of 125 school libraries in the 2025-26 academic session, as highlighted in the Economic Survey. Each library will be equipped with 20 digital devices, headphones, a library kiosk, charging cart, and a printer to enhance access to modern learning tools.
A baseline assessment conducted in September 2025 has identified around 7.5 lakh students from Classes 1 to 8 with gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy. Based on performance, students have been categorised into four groups: Beginner, Emerging, Progressive, and Proficient to tailor targeted interventions.

To address these gaps, the government is implementing structured learning modules developed by SCERT. These readiness-based modules are being rolled out for Classes 2 to 8 after mid-term exams under the NIPUN Sankalp programme, aiming to strengthen core academic skills.
In a parallel push for digital education, the government plans to set up 8,777 smart classrooms by the end of March. This initiative is expected to transform traditional teaching methods and improve classroom engagement across schools.
The Directorate of Education continues to prioritise inclusive education. In 2025, 879 children with severe or profound disabilities were enrolled in home-based learning programmes. Additionally, 286 out-of-school children have been mainstreamed into formal education.
To streamline admissions, 2,333 special admission cells have been established, while 4,258 children with disabilities participated in para-sports activities. The survey also noted that 46 per cent of children with special needs have received Unique Disability ID cards.
Financial support schemes have also been expanded. Under the Lal Bahadur Shastri Scholarship Scheme, ₹2,500 was provided to over 34,000 meritorious students. Uniform subsidies have been revised to ease financial burdens on families.

Sports incentives have seen a significant hike, with Olympic and Paralympic gold medal winners now eligible for ₹7 crore, alongside increased rewards for other international events.
The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam language labs, introduced in 100 schools, are expected to benefit nearly 60,000 students by offering multilingual education. Additionally, the Vidya Shakti Mission will provide structured competitive exam coaching to 2,200 students annually.
