New Delhi: As mid-October sets in, North India is witnessing a pleasant transition from the humid monsoon months to the calm, cooler days of early winter. The city wakes up to crisp, calm mornings and enjoys pleasantly warm afternoons, while evenings are marked by a gentle coolness that hints at the approaching winter.

The weather across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand is marked by clear skies, falling temperatures, and the gradual return of morning mist- a sign that winter is not far away.

Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Delhi braces for coldest October night; Fog and pollution to rise

Delhi-NCR: Pleasant mornings, pollution still a concern

Delhi-NCR woke up to a pleasant morning on Thursday with the minimum temperature hovering around 20–22°C, while daytime highs are expected to reach 31–32°C. Skies remain mostly clear, and humidity levels have dropped, giving residents some relief from the sticky weather of recent weeks.

However, despite the comfortable temperatures, the air quality remains a concern. The 24-hour average AQI has climbed above 240, falling in the “poor” category due to stagnant winds and increasing local emissions.

With stubble burning beginning in neighboring states and festive activities around the corner, experts warn that smog may worsen in the coming days. Authorities have already started implementing the first phase of the GRAP restrictions to curb pollution levels.

Uttar Pradesh: Bright Sunshine and Mild Evenings

In most parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj and Varanasi, the weather is stable and pleasant. The day temperature is ranging between 31-33°C, while nights are cooler at around 21–22°C. Clear skies and light northerly winds are dominating the region, making it ideal for outdoor work and travel.

The shift from monsoon to pre-winter has also benefitted farmers, as dry conditions are helping prepare fields for the rabi crop season. The humidity has dropped, and no major rainfall activity is expected this week.

Meteorologists say that from next week onwards, north-western winds will strengthen, leading to a further dip in night temperatures- especially in central and eastern UP. Cities like Gorakhpur and Bareilly may soon experience their first light fog of the season.

Uttarakhand: Crisp Air and Early Winter Chill

In the hilly state of Uttarakhand, the arrival of cool winds has made mornings and nights noticeably chilly. Dehradun recorded a minimum temperature of around 15°C, while Nainital and Mussoorie dropped to 10–12°C. Daytime highs remain comfortable near 25°C, with abundant sunshine.

The hill districts of Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar are likely to experience colder nights in the coming days. The IMD has forecast dry weather for the week, but temperatures are expected to dip further as western disturbances begin influencing the Himalayan belt by late October.

Tourists are flocking to popular hill spots to enjoy the crisp autumn weather, though locals have been advised to prepare for colder nights and early morning fog.
