The Deputy CM's post has intensified political activity in Karnataka. According to media reports, DK Shivakumar has repeatedly approached the Congress high command seeking the Chief Minister's post in Karnataka. However, he has also been seen having breakfast with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
DK Shivakumar has reportedly told senior Congress leaders several times that the Congress government in Karnataka has completed 2.5 years and that it is now time for him to become the Chief Minister. However, no leader has officially confirmed this.
Rahul Gandhi's Karnataka Visit
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Karnataka on Tuesday, January 13. During his visit, Rahul Gandhi met with both DK Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Rahul Gandhi's visit to Karnataka comes amidst the power struggle for the Chief Minister's chair. The Congress leader first met with the CM and Deputy CM separately and then brought them together for a discussion.
According to media reports, Rahul Gandhi discussed the upcoming budget session of Karnataka with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, Siddaramaiah denied that any political issues were discussed with Rahul Gandhi.
